Product Director
As Product Director, you are responsible for managing product lines, increasing profitability of existing products, and developing new products based on market requirements.
You’ll be leading the launch of new product and service offerings. Starting with market research and guided by organizational goals and directives, you’ll work to increase revenue and customer satisfaction by delivering a range of products that will be well-received in the marketplace.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional management, communication & leadership skills.
This role requires in-depth technical knowledge, the ability to effectively work with customers to capture business requirements for product lines.
You’ll gather data, analyze competition, and capture customer requirements to identify gaps in our company’s offerings. You’ll interface with management, engineering, information technology and finance to develop probability studies, return on investment analyses and delivery timelines.
As Product Director, you will be responsible for the setting the product direction and managing the product management and development functions for the EMOTIV technology platform.
You will address critical success factors, financial objectives and key issues in determining which products to bring to market. You may be required to develop a life cycle management plan to extend the business potential; and conduct continuous research and analysis of product performance.
Building business models, validating findings through data analysis and making recommendations are additional job duties typical for a product director. They may also manage product strategy communications, such as updates and roadmap reviews, and present findings and recommendations in a formal setting.
This is a senior level leadership role and requires the ability to lead multiple teams, including offshore teams. You need to be a strong manager with good decision-making skills and a proven track record in software development and product management.
Responsibilities
- Manage entire product lifecycle from strategic planning to tactical activities
- Develop Product Requirements Documents (PRD) for each product line
- Conduct market research, surveys, and customer/prospect visits to understand & specify business requirements for target market segments.
- Prioritize and implement recommendations to improve or add to the product offerings by performing/reviewing industry and market research, including competitor analysis, as well as by creating relationships with clients and within the industry to hear needs and trends
- Lead the definition of product strategy.
- Establish product direction in line with corporate and product strategy.
- Analyze competitive offerings to identify differentiators & set pricing
- Assist with completing Requests for Proposal/Information
- Assist technology development teams in coming up with creative solutions to client situations.
- Establish good relationships with internal groups
- Evaluate the business case for each proposed enhancement and finalize content for each development release.
- Develop resource and capacity plans for each new product release, and track progress against them.
- Document & report on product profitability & operational product metrics.
- Define user personas/use cases to gain understanding from each perspective
- Assist in creating collateral that accurately reflects the features & benefits of the products.
- Develop 1, 3 and 5 year plans for the product.
- Develop & implement go-to-market strategy with corporate teams
- Analyze partnership opportunities for products and/or integrated solutions
- Lead the Development team to successfully implement the enhancements in a defined timeframe, while providing maintenance support.
- Provide context to the Testing and Documentation teams to enable them to be focused on product quality and user assistance.
- Lead the product team to successfully create new and update existing products.
- Maintain control of all processes for product management, development, testing and documentation for the products.
- Build a defined, repeatable, measurable sales process for products
- Provide status reports and metrics on the products to Senior Management.
- Communicate with journalists & analysts to demonstrate product expertise.
* Qualifications
- Advanced degree in business or computer science is desirable.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in financial software product development is desirable.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the investment compliance domain is desirable.
- Good understanding of technology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Strong management, leadership and decision-making skills.
- Experience with managing offshore teams and with using outsourcing.
- A 40-hour week is standard, but product launches could require longer hours.
- Travel to outside vendors or satellite facilities may be necessary.
